Storage unit auctions continued to grow in popularity and Storage Wars continued to be an extremely popular show over the past year. Just as in years past, there have been some very interesting items found in storage unit auctions, some good and some actually very unusual. Unless an actual “big treasure” is reported, such as the $500,000 in coins found in storage at the end of 2011, information about most big storage finds are not released to the public. The purchaser of a “big find” wants to find out the value of the item and sell it before releasing information to the public. However, there are a few interesting finds and possibilities of treasure in storage units and storage unit auctions this past year.
1. Lindsay Lohan’s two storage units will be going up for auction at an undetermined date. In mid-December it was announced that Lindsay Lohan was delinquent on her rent for her two storage units. These storage units hold many designer items and family memorabilia. There hasn’t been information on the auction yet and it has been rumored that it could be used in a future Storage Wars episode.
2. Auction Hunters won an auction on a storage unit with a 1969 Chevelle in pristine condition. They sold the car for $9,000, which as a huge profit from what they paid for the storage unit.
3. Not all storage unit finds are through a storage unit. Police found Chef Guy Fieri’s stolen Lamborghini in a storage unit. The car was reported stolen in 2011 and was valued at over $250,000. The car was given back to Guy Fieri.
Remember, storage unit auctions usually do not contain these types of treasures. The storage units usually contain everyday items such as furniture, clothing and appliances. Most purchasers are getting items to sell at shops or online. However, there are people who just enjoy the possibility of finding treasure at a storage auction. These are the people who keep coming back to storage auctions.
